What If You...

... woke up one day and had the powerful urge to just up and leave to start a new life somewhere else?

What if... after settling in a new place and finding yourself...

... you find out that you and everyone around you were actually dead?

This is an idea for a story that just popped into my head... basically it is as you have just read: a girl wakes up from her bed, decides randomly to leave her boyfriend and life (setting: London :P) and drive off to a little village to start over again.

What happens to her in that village, I haven't quite thought out, but basically she will be an outsider, a curiosity with a posh accent and she begins to fit in by befriending the locals. But she can never quite befriend anyone, per se. She loves her solitude but at the same time, she wants human connection.

Then suddenly one of her newfound friends decide to break it to her... *dun dun dun* that our protagonist has actually been dead for some time.

And actually, so is the entire village.

They are all unclaimed and lost souls who have either had too strong, earthly ties and could not (and they do not want to anyway) leave the earth, and so are doomed to spend the rest of their lives, unaging, in that ghost town. If one wanted to leave, then they must find their bodies, truly accept that they are dead and sever all ties and regrets they have for their previous life on earth.

If this was a movie I would cast Gemma Arterton as my protagonist:

Probably no love interest. Sorry Ms. Arterton.

The songs that inspired this (and the most likely ones I will use for its trailer... XP):

We Were Promised Jetpacks - Conductor

Martin Bjorck - Starcrossed Eyes

She & Him - Brand New Shoes

Frightened Rabbit - Swim Until You Can't See Land

And the soundtrack will be entirely The Caretaker (go youtube him up... all his stuff are AMAZING).

One of my faves. The Caretaker - Cloudy Since You Went Away

I know, I know, terribly cliched. So it'll probably never make it into a real story... unless you guys have any improvements/opinions you'd like to share. Don't be shy, if it's crap, just tell me (it probably is anyway).
